In addition to the hosts, Turkey, Belgium, Bulgaria, Puerto Rico, Argentina and Peru were also in the brackets. After a good start, the Brazilians defeated Türkiye 3-0. With that, they reached the final round, needing to defeat a full house. The result was a thrilling 3-2 triumph by scores of 21/25, 25/22, 25/27, 25/15 and 10/15. Men's competition At home, Brazil was joined by Germany, Cuba, Italy, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Iran and Qatar. Therefore, they needed to be in the top two to guarantee classification. After losing to Germany, the Brazilians reached the last stage to compete with Italy for a place in the World Classic. With a lot of emotion, the Brazilians won the first set, but lost themselves. The fourth was won by 25:17. That's how the tiebreak was won by 15:11, without emotion. Volleyball at the Olympics: what is it like? In the first phase, the teams are divided into two groups according to the FIVB world ranking. The host country and the defending champion are the seeded teams. Therefore, there will be five games for each team in the first phase, with the top four in each group advancing. From the second phase comes the turn of eliminations, with quarter-finals, semi-finals and the big decision. The losers of the semifinals compete for third place, which is worth bronze. In the last edition, gold was won by France in the men's event and by the USA in the women's event. The Brazilian women won the silver medal, while the men lost the bronze medal.
