Negotiations between Puma and São Paulo could generate controversy with Palmeiras
Given the deep relationship with Adidas, its current sporting goods supplier, São Paulo is already starting behind-the-scenes work to find a replacement. LUNCH! found that the Morumbi club already had offers from companies that intend to dress him for 2024, when the contract with the German multinational expires. And one of them promises to cause controversy in Brazilian football. Puma began the process of approaching Tricolor, which would have been a normal conversation for both sides if it weren't for the small details: the German multinational has had an exclusive agreement in Brazilian territory with rival Palmiras since 2019. And the business will continue until the end of 2024. But what is changing at Puma? The company has a fierce rivalry with Adidas. And, as far as football is concerned, the situation has only gotten worse in recent years, including with the ‘purchase’ of the Alviverde team, replacing the company by three strokes. At this moment, 'stealing' another popular Brazilian club, previously served by a bigger rival, could be another 'blow' for Puma and an opportunity to grow in the face of the competition. + Lucas Lima, Pato and more: we list the 15 most famous Brazilian players without a team + Watch the main international football discussions at Mercado da Bola do L! AGREEMENT WITH TRANSPORTATION COMPANY WILL HELP Although Puma and São Paulo like each other, they both looked for and found a way to close a deal: the use of an outsourced company. There is a gap in Palmiras' contract with the company. Tricolor himself knows exactly how an agreement like this works. That was in 2016, when two years after signing with Under Armour, which also has exclusivity in the country, he saw the company emerge from other teams, such as Fluminense. Interpretation: São Paulo will sign a contract with the company. And he can buy Puma uniforms to work at Tricolor. It's like Nike, for example, did with Santos, Coritiba and Bahia in the past. The agreement between the clubs, in fact, consisted of a virtual sporting goods store and not the American multinational, a specific Corinthians store in São Paulo. Palmeiras and Puma had a tumultuous relationship (Image: Disclosure/Palmeiras) SCREAMING IN THE GREEN, REVOLUTION IN THE TRICOLOR According to L! revealed, Palmiras and Puma went through a period of disagreements last year: there are complaints from the group regarding the distribution of products and the price charged by the company in the market. The situation, however, improved between the groups. None of this is happening between São Paulo and Adidas. Still, in December, the contention between the teams took on another chapter, with the team's preseason uniforms still bearing the branding of Roku, a maker of online media players, whose contract expired three months ago and has yet to be released. renovated. The situation should only change at the end of January, when, finally, the club should present part of its new collection. It is not the first conflict between the Morumbi club and the German multinational. Still in December, the club found itself in the grip of the sports brand and 'didn't realize' that São Paulo's third shirt, a reference to the tracksuit worn by the 1992 World Cup team, disappeared from stores after the first set was sold out. Launched in August, the piece sold out in one weekend. And replacing the collection of 3,000 units, promised by Tricolor to fans at the time in 15 days, took almost two months. After raising almost R$1 million on the weekend of the shirt's launch, São Paulo's forecast is that the club will no longer raise another R$6 million per piece due to customer waiting lists created by the stores. Since last year, the club has complained about not receiving the same treatment as rivals, such as Flamengo, Atlético-MG and Internacional. The complaints relate to the amount paid and the items available for sale, with the absence of shirts and coats from the same brand. At the beginning of 2022, the termination was read by Tricolor's legal team, but the amount of the fine prevented the edition from moving forward. The agreement between the parties expires next year. The controversy saw coach Rogério Ceni enter the 'life' by wearing clothes from Under Armour, a former São Paulo retailer, in a match against Juventus, in April, for the Copa do Brasil. The reporter was unable to contact the advisors of the German multinational until the end of this report to comment on the information. > Explore games, details and simulate results from Paulistão-23 Follow Lance! on Google Most Read Stories 1 Off the field, Vini Jr.'s attitude is that he's going to have fun. and Mbappé, from Real Madrid, draws attention on the web 2 Outside the Brasileirão stadium: see title chances after Botafogo's draw and Palmeiras' victory 3 Outside the stadium Botafogo fans choose the case of a narrow defeat: '4It's worth it lose!'
