(Photo: Casa Arte Vida) Best NGOs Award The Best NGOs Award is awarded annually by the social certifier Instituto Doar and Instituto O Mundo Que Quero to evaluate the best NGOs in Brazil. Currently, the eighth edition of the award allows the free participation of Brazilian non-profit associations and foundations – around 800 thousand entities operate in the country in this model.

By recognizing the work carried out by the best NGOs in Brazil, the Best NGOs Award encourages good practices in the Brazilian third sector. To this end, organizations that are distinguished by the quality and transparency of management are evaluated based on the technical and objective selection of five main themes: cause and action strategy, representation and responsibility, management and planning, financial and communication strategy and accountability .

For example, the financial sustainability of NGOs is an important evaluation criterion for organizations selected for the list of the 100 best NGOs in Brazil. According to data released by the awards, 98% of the organizations that stand out have a system or button for collecting donations and have hired at least one employee dedicated exclusively to fundraising. Casa Arte Vida, for example, in addition to having an employee dedicated exclusively to this cause, has a donation button and a “how to help” page on its website where citizens can find ways to contribute to the organization.

Award categories The awards for the best NGOs are divided into several categories. The broadest category is Best NGOs, which awards 100 outstanding organizations among the participants. The Best Small NGOs category awards up to 10 small organizations – that is, those with annual revenue of up to R$500,000. In addition to being in the Best NGOs category for five years, Casa Arte Vida, an organization led by Ana Carolina Affonso, also entered the list of Best Small NGOs.

Other award categories are the best NGO, the best in each theme and the best in each region/state.
