The award, which is now in its eighth edition, allows the free participation of Brazilian non-profit organizations and foundations – around 800,000 entities operate in the country through this model.

Recognizing the work carried out by the best NGOs in Brazil, the Best NGOs Award encourages good practices in the Brazilian third sector. To this end, organizations that stand out for the quality and transparency of their management are judged based on a technical and objective selection of five major themes: cause and action strategy, representation and accountability, management and planning, financial and communication strategy, and responsibility.

For example, the financial sustainability of NGOs is an important evaluation criterion for organizations selected for the list of the top 100 NGOs in Brazil. According to data released by the award, 98% of the highlighted organizations have a fundraising system or button and employed at least one employee dedicated exclusively to fundraising. In addition to an employee dedicating himself solely to this cause, the Casa Arte Vida website, for example, has a donation button and a “how to help” page where citizens can find ways to contribute to the organization.

Award categories The Best NGO Award is divided into several categories. The broadest category is Best NGOs, which honors 100 outstanding organizations among the participants. The Best Small NGOs category honors up to 10 small organizations, that is, those with annual revenue of up to R$500,000. In addition to being in the category of the best NGOs of the last five years, Casa Arte Vida, an organization led by Ana Carolina Affonso, also became part of the group of best small NGOs.

Other categories that are also awarded are Best NGO, Best for Each Purpose and Best for Each Region/State.
