Additionally, the feature, which stands for “generative emoji,” allows iPhone users to create unique emojis with a simple text description. This allows you to use the ideal character or icon to represent what you currently want if you can't find an existing one.
For those who already have an iOS 18 device and have the new Genmoji feature, see below how it works and how to use it.
How does Genmoji work? The feature is powered by AI built into iPhone iOS 18, powered by Apple Intelligence (Apple's generative AI). When a user types a description into the tool, it generates an emoji that matches what was requested, along with additional options.
Genmoji offers several design options for each emoji so that the user can find the combination that suits them best. You can also create emojis based on photos of loved ones, adding an even more personal touch to messages.
How to get and use Genmoji To get Genmoji, simply enter a description or use images you already have on your device. Genmoji can be used in text messages/iMessages, shared as a sticker or as a reaction, just like emoticons.

Genmoji Quick Tips for Creating New Emojis Be specific: The more details you provide, the better Genmoji will understand your vision. Instead of saying “happy emoji”, try “smiling face with rosy cheeks, big smile and bright eyes”. Use descriptive language: paint a picture with your words. Instead of “sad emoji,” describe “face with watery eyes, pursed mouth, and furrowed eyebrows.” Include emotions: Instead of “surprised emoji,” say “wide-eyed, open-mouthed face expressing shock and disbelief.” Add actions: Bring your emojis to life with verbs. Instead of “dancing emoticon,” describe “a figure with raised arms, swaying hips, and a happy expression.” Be creative: Don't be afraid to think outside the box. Want a “hunger and anger” emoji? Describe “a face with half-closed eyes, clenched teeth, and steam coming out of the ears.”
